Travel Photography is one of the many perks that make our lives as full-time photographers most enjoyable. A few shots from the hauntingly sparse beaches of Gopalpur-On-Sea, right on the Indian Ocean.

Interestingly enough, I didn’t expect much from these photos. The whole resort was quite empty while we were there. I expected much more activity. However, during the sunsets, the action starts. As the groups of fishermen begin to row back to shore, the beach starts teeming with activity. Astoundingly the whole orchestra is a group effort. Men and boys (no women) team up and help pull the boats in. Following that, the nets that are ripe with fruits of their labor are unloaded. One by one, each fish is divided up among the group until they are all accounted for. And then, as quickly as they came – they are all gone and the boats are retired for the evening. Only to do it again the next day.

The vivid and wild colors of the ocean could only be captured by this film format. Which is pretty common for travel photography. The secret below the surface of the ocean is its ferocity. While it looks calm and empty, our hosts reminded us many times that the water is very dangerous.  Of course, just mentioning it one time was enough for me to stay on dry land.
