A spring blossom family photo shoot in Alexandria, Virginia

There is nothing more fun than then when my friends get married and have babies than getting the opportunity to do their family photo shoot.  The only thing that makes it better is when they are not just friends but former clients with some practice in front of my camera.

J & E got married right around the time I was getting started in photography and I was delighted when they asked me to photograph their big day (which was then featured on the Knot). Back at the time of their wedding they chose to skip an engagement session and bank it for a family photo shoot down the line… what can I say, they are planners!

Fast Forward to a Family Photo Shoot

Now that J & E are an adorable family of three and it was time for them to cash in that shoot. I knew E was going to style everything perfectly but she blew me out of the water with their outfits for the day. I was so excited to see her crotched summer dress and little man’s shorts with suspenders (how can you go wrong with a baby in suspenders?).

Lucky for us the crabapple trees were going nuts around that time so we had plenty of spring blossoms to work with for the shoot. As Washington DC photographers you know we can never get enough of shooting the blossom (cherry or otherwise).

We did the shoot around their home of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. I just love shooting around a family’s neighborhood. It is so special to be able to capture that exact moment in their lives.

J & L’s Fall Wedding

J & L’s Fall Wedding in DC from last year was certainly one of my favorites. I could wear these Chloe flats every day!

A Fall wedding in DC is so popular, and I know exactly why. The weather is absolutely perfect in DC for an outdoor wedding, and the colors of fall are so deep and rich that they complement a black tie wedding perfectly. This wedding was supposed to be at the Carnegie library in DC but had to change plans with only ONE MONTH of notice! Fortunately the wedding found a new venue and was at the AIA building (so funny how I ended up back at that building after my past career as an architect). We took advantage of the new location of the wedding by doing portraits around this part of town that included the Corcoran building, the DAR and even the Red Cross building. So much great architecture in DC for a classic black tie wedding which makes us wedding photographers happy happy!

PS – how great are these colors on film? Seriously, I can’t get enough of these skin tones and berry colors on medium format. Also, while this was a church wedding at Gonzaga, the church was so bright that I was even able to shoot a good amount of Kodak Portra 800!

When Wedding Planners Gather on the Eastern Shore

As wedding photographers, there’s nothing better than to get to spend the day with some of the areas best wedding planners to kick off wedding season. I was lucky enough to document this gorgeous setup and then join everyone for dinner last may. It was the absolute perfect weather for dinner outdoors (It’s possible!).

This shoot was originally posted on Style Me Pretty Living along with some tips on entertaining from the planners of this event – Pop the Cork Designs and Adriana Marie Events. I must be craving nice weather, this was the perfect day for a dinner Al fresco on the Chesapeake bay!

A Stunning Shoot at the Washington DC National Cathedral

It has been a dream of mine to be published on the wedding blog OnceWed, and so when it finally happened last year I couldn’t have been more thrilled! You can check out the whole feature here: https://www.oncewed.com/featured/elegant-garden-inspired-indoor-wedding-ideas/

Having a beautiful setting like the National Cathedral is one of the perks of hosting an event at the National Cathedral school. It’s also a perk of living in Washington, DC and being a wedding photographers we get to enjoy all these views. The buildings on the campus are stunning in their ne0-Gothic style, but also their grounds are spectacularly maintained. As the sun set over the limestone buildings, the colors of the atmosphere turned to beautiful shades of pink and blue. This is really one of the best wedding venues we have in DC, what a place to have your wedding ceremony!
