Personal Projects are the lifeblood of a creative professional. I wouldn’t be able to test film, labs, etc. without personal projects. Fortunately, I have had success in talking my friends into throwing on a skirt and going for a stroll. I found this elegant black skirt on a thrift store site and I knew that my friend Leila would be the perfect model.

Since I live near Union station, I’ve walked by the building and crowds numerous times. The neoclassical architecture has always inspired me. Additionally, the long curved archway creates the perfect location for lighting and perspective. I keep picturing a girl who is on her way somewhere, but she is late for her train. She is all dressed up and ready for her event, but first, she needs to make it to the train.  Perhaps it’s her own wedding that she is running to. Or perhaps it’s her own wedding she is running away from. The fact that she is wearing all black would symbolize the end, or death of something.

Without getting too morbid, honestly, we are just playing around. The folds of the fabric of the skirt inspired me. They are reminiscent of the folds of fabric on a sculpture. Much like the fountain sculpture we are running circles around.
